Venue: TBD
Panama City, Panama
American Friends of Ma’agalim will host Eli Sharabi, author of Hostage, for a powerful conversation about his 491 days of captivity in Gaza as a hostage of Hamas in Panama City. Sharabi will reflect on finding light amid darkness — how faith, hope, and belief sustained him through unimaginable suffering and guided his healing.
His story echoes Ma’agalim’s mission to help at-risk youth in Israel find strength, purpose, and the light to rise above the challenges in their own lives.

American Friends of Ma’agalim will host Paralympic gold medalist and two-time world champion in Taekwondo Asaf Yasur. At just 13 years old, Asaf Yasur lost both of his hands and believed his world had ended. Instead, he defied every expectation and today, Asaf brings that same determination to Ma’agalim, where he mentors at-risk teens across Israel – young people who have been written off, underestimated, or left behind. When they hear Asaf’s story, they don’t see a champion on a podium; they see proof that setbacks do not define them – and that their future is still being written.
Join us for an inspiration and moving evening.
